Jay Stansfield has apologised for the manner in which he reacted to chants which came from the Birmingham City end following the full time whistle of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town. Blues missed a golden opportunity to leave themselves in a strong position heading into the final day of the campaign as they continue to fight against relegation.

Koji Miyoshi had nudged Blues in front on the stroke of half time, but the Terriers - who by failing to win on Saturday are all but down - immediately responded at the beginning of the second period through Rhys Healey. Blues now have no choice but to beat Norwich City on the last day, at St Andrew's next Saturday, and hope results involving survival rivals go their way elsewhere.

Blues supporters, who packed out the away end at the John Smith's Stadium, voiced their anger and frustration at the full time whistle and aimed 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' chants at members of the squad as they headed over to acknowledge the following at full time. Stansfield was visibly bemused by the chants, and reacted accordingly before being guided away by Lukas Jutkiewicz.

On Sunday morning, Fulham loanee Stansfield - who, as the club's top goalscorer with 13 this term is widely considered to be among Blues' best performing players in what has otherwise been another tumultuous year - has apologised for his actions and delivered a rallying cry ahead of the Norwich clash, which will be the final game of his otherwise fruitful loan spell.

"Yesterday was a tough one to take and I am sorry to all the Blues fans for the way I acted after the game," Stansfield posted on Instagram. "Fans have been amazing all season. We have a massive game on Saturday and we all need to stick together. @bcfc."
