Lambert: Fulham Game Great For Dobra's Development
Friday, 18th Sep 2020 14:40

Blues boss Paul Lambert felt Wednesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham will have been a great game for youngster Armando Dobra’s development.

The Albanian U21 international made his first Town appearance of the season from the start against the Whites.

Asked how he felt the 19-year-old did when up against Premier League players, he said: “A bit up and down. I think he’s got to release the ball quicker, but he’s a young lad and you can never fault his enthusiasm or his endeavour.

“But I think the game was a tough game for him, he was up against really strong players, against guys who had played in their first team against Arsenal.

“A big learning curve, some OK things and some not so good things, but he’ll learn. The big thing for me is as long as he learns when to release the ball and be quicker on the ball, I think that is important for him.

“Great game for his development but he’s got a long, long way to go to improve that’s for sure.”

Lambert said last week that Dobra, Idris El Mizouni and Brett McGavin are players he’d like to see go out on loan.

“Hopefully that will happen,” he reiterated. “A couple of young kids will go out on loan and start to play. I think it’s important for their development to play. So if we can do that then great, but somebody has to want you.”

PL is undoubtedly correct in his assessment of and desire to establish loan experience .
Let's hope it can happen ,and with a Managerial set up who'll care for and about his all round development .

Hawkins should have played him in for a one-on-one vs Fulham. Was an easy pass.

I think a loan until Jan initially does make sense although I think some game time in trophy should be possible.

Needs to be far more positive in public Eve. If he may say this to player in private. I Wouldn't mind these comments if PL didn't only aim them at the younger players. Think same could be said of Chambo, Norwood, Nolan, Skuse et al but never hear it. Bothers me to be fair - says something about the guy.

Armando is one of our best players... surely... if his father had played for Town he would be treated differently... I want to see him and el-Miz in the team.

I think Dobra is our best player. It's not hard to see. Lambert rightly plays it down.. Evans' refusal of Brighton's pathetic offer led me to have more respect for the reclusive Irishman.

I have seen Armando many times in the U23's and he is a real talent, but in all honesty Lambo is right here. I don't think there is any real point in talking the lad up from the other night as he was having a torrid time, constantly running into trouble, being dispossessed easily and giving the ball away. The learning exercise was that despite Brighton's recent interest the young lad is a million miles away from being a premiership player or reaching that level of quality. I believe he would struggle as well in the championship, and I think it a little unfair on the lad the other night that they didn't take him off after about sixty minutes.

The lad will come again and will go on to become a good player, the right think is to find him a loan club so he can develop by playing regular first team football, this did Woolfy and Flynn the world of good.

I do though think Idris is much closer to the first team with more versatility but again if Cambridge took him again to at least January this would prime him for e 2nd half of the season, in some sense we should waive any fee and continue to pay their wages whilst on loan to make it a more attractive move.

We need to develop Dobra as he has real potential and talent- we must not stifle or give him poor man management or coaching, saw him in the U18's and he could be a homegrown first teamer. Same with our other youngsters, Dozzell is technically excellent and again needs the right coaching and development, shame Downes has had his head turned but let's hope Lambert doesn't stifle these players who have such great potential.

I recall being told by my U18's coach In front of the whole team that I wanted too much time on the ball. Ok it wasn't pro level but we were national under 18's schools quarter finalists and winners the following year. It was good advice, I stopped always trying to play the amazing ball and picked the moments. It amazes me how people on here question Man management of someone who has received it at the top level. He's made it clear he thinks Dobra has talent but has made his thoughts public to see if he takes notice. Lambert has a few medals as a player

Reading all the comments.. I think I was a bit OTT in my praise.. I'd been watching videos of Dobra's goals and skills.. it was wrong of me to make the comment I did about "if his father etc..." I'm really glad to see Andre Dozzell doing so great this year...he is where he is completely on merit.. but it is nonetheless great we have such resources in youth, as well as the older hands. What was foretold in the Ipswich Football Calypso has come to pass.
