Aston Villa star backs Mbaye Diagne to thrive ahead of ‘proposed’ Leeds United move

Aston Villa winger Trezeguet has backed his former teammate Mbaye Diagne to thrive should he make the move to Leeds United this summer as reported by Birmingham Live.

Trezeguet played alongside Diagne during their time at Kasimpasa in Turkey and forged a devastating partnership and the winger believes Diagne could replicate his form if he makes the move to England.

In an interview with The Guardian, Diagne said: “We talk regularly and he keeps saying I would thrive in England. I’m big and strong, I can hold up the ball and lay it off, I’m good in the air and I’m a finisher. All I know is that, whether at Galatasaray or somewhere else, I am eager to get back playing and scoring again.”

There have been reports linking Diagne with Leeds who are said to have stepped up their interest in the striker but there has been no official confirmation.

Diagne is currently with Galatasaray but recently spent the season on loan at Club Brugge where he scored four goals in nine appearances before the suspension of the season.

The Senegalese endured a mixed time at Brugge where he missed a penalty and was reprimanded by manager Phillippe Clement after ignoring instructions and was subsequently fined.

The striker is determined to get back to scoring goals on a consistent basis and with interest from Watford and Nottingham Forest, as well as Leeds, he could be on his way to England this summer.

The 28-year-old has confirmed that he has received no notification of any ‘concrete offers’ from other clubs but he is eager to resurrect his career whether that be in Turkey or England.
