West Brom and Leeds United refuse to back Hull City stance on season restart

West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United have both refused to back Hull City’s stance on curtailing the season as reported by Teeside Live.

There was confirmation that Hull had wrote to the EFL explaining their reasons for wanting the season to come to a premature end but there are still clubs in the Championship fighting for the cause.

The Hull City owner Ehab Allam believes that sporting integrity would be in danger should football continue and outlined his ‘serious concerns’ on the matter.

However, so far, Hull have found no public backing from other Championship clubs ahead of an EFL board meeting on Wednesday although there are believed to be some sides who do have reservations over a restart.

Some clubs returned to training on Bank Holiday Monday in preparation for the possible resumption of the season, outlining their willingness to complete the campaign on the pitch.

Leeds and West Brom are both fighting for promotion and the Whites have reiterated their desire for playing the remaining nine games and the Midlands club have backed this idea following a statement from the West Brom chief executive on their official website.

CLARITY

“We certainly welcome the clarity the EFL have now provided as to its future intentions in terms of resolving the conclusion of the 2019/20 season.”

“However, let me say at the outset that West Bromwich Albion’s position in this remains the same now as it was back when fixtures were halted – the Club is resolutely behind finishing the campaign, if it is at all possible, where it belongs and that is on the pitch.”

“We take comfort that this is also the apparent wish of all the governing bodies and the majority of our fellow Championship clubs.”

“From the moment that the path was cleared for the players to return to training, albeit in a regulated and strictly-controlled format, our mindset has been focused solely on being in the best possible shape, physically and mentally, to complete the remaining nine league fixtures,” he said.

There have been reports that a vote will shortly take place and a 51% majority will ultimately decide the outcome of the season, meaning Leeds and West Brom will need 11 other Championship clubs to back them in order to complete the campaign.
