Jay Stansfield is chasing a Premier League chance and hopes his goal-laden loan spell in the Championship has caught the eye of parent club Fulham.

The striker netted 13 goals for Birmingham City to claim all five men’s prizes at their end-of-season awards dinner. While those goals weren’t enough to keep Blues in the Championship, Stansfield excelled in his first season in the second tier.

Having spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at boyhood club Exeter City in League One, Stansfield made the step up to the Championship look easy. The 21-year-old now has his sights set on the Premier League.

“As a young player, you need to take it step by step,” said Stansfield. “I played in League One last season and went back to Fulham and they wanted me to take on the next challenge, I went out and did that. Hopefully when I go back now they can see that I have taken the next challenge and been able to perform at this level.”

Stansfield bid an emotional farewell to his Blues teammates and supporters on Sunday, the day after the club’s relegation to League One was confirmed. Will Stansfield continue his upwards trajectory and feature in the top flight next term?

He added: “I don’t want to get ahead of myself, I’ve only had one season in the Championship, but it’s something I dream of. Hopefully it will come to that one day but I’m just going to take it step-by-step and keep developing and learning.”
