Punchestown Festival day 5 (Saturday): horse racing tips from Ed Quigley

Top Tipster and Broadcaster, Ed 'Longshot Ted' Quigley has been in stunning form, and serves up his best bets for the final day of the 2024 Punchestown Festival...

Ted's Punchestown Festival tips for Saturday, May 4.

Find the following picks for day four races at Punchestown Festival. Play on the races with our best expert-rated horse racing betting sites:

  • Punchestown 3.05 - Bowtogreatnessy - bet with talkSPORT BET
  • Punchestown 4.15 - Minella Crooner - bet with bet365

Punchestown 3.05 - Bowtogreatness each way

Ben Pauling has had a cracking season, and so has owner Harry Redknapp, and they will be looking for more success here with BOWTOGREATNESS. Connections have tasted Cheltenham Festival success this term, and they will be hoping that their 8-year-old can add to the list here. It has been a little bit of a frustrating time for the gelding, who has run some good races in defeat this season, including when third at Kempton on his penultimate start in a hot Handicap Chase.

Eased to a mark of 130 for this assignment, he looks to have solid each-way claims as he tackles this marathon trip for the first time. Ben Jones is in the saddle for the Cotswold handler, and this combination can get in the shake-up here at an each-way price.

Punchestown 4.15 - Minella Crooner each way

The wheels have come off for MINELLA CROONER in recent times, but he can be chanced at a price to get back to winning ways returning to Punchestown. Recent form figures don't inspire, but he has two wins at the track - including over course and distance, so this 8-year-old who blows hot and cold, could easily bounce back at a venue we know he enjoys.

Eased to a mark of 142, he is starting to look dangerously well handicapped as a winner of a Listed Chase earlier in the season. If rains arrive that will only enhance his claims, and I wouldn't rule out a revival from this talented sort. Sam Ewing is in the saddle for the Gordon Elliott team, and they get the nod from me as the value play in this wide-open encounter.

Punchestown 5.25 - Encanto Bruno each way

It has been a stop-start season for ENCANTO BRUNO, who hasn't fired on all cylinders since winning at Cheltenham's October meeting. However, there have been valid excuses since, where a combination of testing ground, Grade 1 level, and the drop down in trip haven't suited him whatsoever.

Back up in distance to an extended 2m4f can only play to his strengths, and I can see him running a massive race in Handicap company off a mark of 139. This is the first race for 6 months which he has had a realistic chance of winning, and connections will be hoping that heavy rain doesn't materialise, as the better the ground the better the chance. Sean Flanagan takes the ride on the 6-year-old, and a big run could easily be on the cards for each-way backers.
