‘Wake up…’ Jamie O’Hara blasts treatment of £40m Tottenham star last night

The final international break is over and Tottenham fans will be glad to see the back of it after a mixed time for their players.

From Europe to South America, Spurs had players up and down the land representing them.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was probably involved in the most hilarious incident of them all after he pushed over the referee during Denmark’s draw against Switzerland.

But it was a different story for his Tottenham teammate, James Maddison

Yes, the 27-year-old provided an assist in stoppage time and helped England rescue a 2-2 draw against Belgium in a friendly encounter at Wembley on Tuesday night.

But the lack of game time for the Spurs superstar is frustrating many, including Jamie O’Hara, as he expressed on Twitter.

The former Tottenham player urged Gareth Southgate to ‘wake up’ and start James Maddison alongside Jude Bellingham.

After being an unused substitute against Brazil and now only earning 20 minutes in another friendly encounter, these aren’t good signs for the £40 million playmaker ahead of Euro 2024.

Should James Maddison start for England?

“Maddison makes things happen,” said O’Hara.

“Needs to be starting with Bellingham, Southgate wake up, it’s our time with these players. Use them properly.”

Tottenham’s gain

Spurs fans will be screaming and urging for Maddison to earn more game time for his country, but on the other side, it’s a plus for Ange Postecoglou.

It means more rest for his players, and with the team chasing Champions League football, they are going to need it.

Tottenham shot themselves in the foot before the international break by losing 3-0 at Fulham.

It has just pegged them back as they aim to fight and chase down Unai Emery’s Aston Villa for that all-important fourth spot.
